This is where it all begins. 3 and 4 year olds can start their tennis journey with a combination of fun games, basic technique and balance and co-ordination exercises.
Children aged between 4 and 10 years old can now get stuck into the world of tennis through the LTA programme. Mini players progress through the Rally Awards in four stages: Tots, Red, Orange and Green. Tots are aged 4-5, Red aged 6-8, Orange aged 9 and Green aged 10. Players will take part in exciting exercises with regular rewards which encourage them to develop their tennis skills at a pace that suits them. Coaching ratios for mini tennis at Downton do not normally exceed 6 players per qualified coach.
This group is for junior players aged 10 to 18. We have various sessions to choose from which will suit all abilities. The focus in these coaching sessions is on good technique, basic tactics, movement and competition. Every junior at the club can be catered for in these sessions and are welcome to attend more than one group. Coaching ratios for yellow ball players at Downton do not normally exceed 8 players per qualified coach.
This group is for adults of all ages and abilities and includes a combination of tactical drills, basic technique and movement. This is a fun session and would ultimately suit most club members.
MIXED PAY AND PLAY (GATEWAY SESSION)
An opportunity for regular coached tennis for non-members. We can cover anything in these sessions, and if we have good numbers we can play lots of tactical, game-based, matchplay drills.
This session is aimed at the advanced club senior or high level junior player. The emphasis is on advanced doubles tactics and high level movement skill; this will include tactical drills, leading into doubles competition.
INDIVIDUAL & SMALL GROUP COACHING
In order to really improve your game 1:1 or 1:2 coaching is the way forward. We would like to get some juniors up to county level and more teams at every level – male/female & junior/senior. A good way to do this is to get individual lessons and play as many matches as possible.
Please note that you must be a club member to receive preferential coaching rates.
